Digital financial inclusion and the work of ADFI were in the spotlight during the recent Summit on the Financing of African Economies. Over 30 heads of state and government and leaders of international organisations including the President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina strongly endorsed ADFI’s work to catalyse greater digital financial inclusion and its contribution to securing productivity, innovation and durable growth across the continent.
The recent GSMA report, The State of the Industry Report on Mobile Money 2021 offers a comprehensive overview of what 2020 meant for mobile money providers, agent networks and the millions of new and existing customers that embraced mobile money in 2020 as a safe and secure financial lifeline, including new data from African markets.
Highlights for Africa include
Launched in 2019, ADFI has already made strides in its goal to create lasting change throughout the digital financial ecosystem in Africa and has reached a key milestone of launching its first 6 projects. This report contributes to the evidence and thinking from 2016, which lead to the design and establishment of ADFI and the progress we are making.
